The following rules changes were approved by the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Water Polo Rules Subcommittee and the Playing Rules Oversight Panel. All rules changes are effective with the 2024-25 season.
1) The ball must land on the water in the Goal Area. 2) After the ball lands, offensive players may play the ball provided that they were at no time in front of the line of the ball while in the Goal Area. RULE INTERPRETATIONS. September 22, 2021. NCAA Water Polo Rule 9 specifies where the penalty throw is to be taken (Section 1), the position of other players and the goalkeeper during the throw (Section 2), and how the penalty throw is to be taken (Section 4).
