1 maj 2023 · The historic Nauvoo Temple was the first latter-day temple to have an angel statue placed atop its spire. However, the weathervane-esque angel was not the same Moroni we are familiar with today. It was a non-specific angel of the Restoration.
The angel on the first Nauvoo temple was a weathervane, sculpted of metal. The figure was positioned horizontally as if it were flying, clothed in a robe and cap. The angel held a book in one hand and a trumpet in the other.
