Basic Description. Dense mounds of round, mottled foliage, 12 to 18 inches high, are the main feature. Foliage remains green through winter. Slender flower stalks, 24 to 48 inches high, bear many pea-sized, cream-colored flowers in May and June. A similar species, Heuchera americana, prefers somewhat moister conditions especially in full sun.

American coral bell, alumroot. Native to North America. CHECK AVAILABILITY. FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Heuchera americana is a small mounding evergreen wildflower with attractive foliage. Leaves are lobed and almost round and are often highlighted with colorful veins or marbling.
Native to much of the eastern United States, American Alumroot can be found in rocky open woodlands, rock outcroppings, and cliff ledges, preferring partial shade and moist, but well-draining humus rich soil.
