NDBC designs, develops, operates, and maintains a network of data collecting buoys and coastal stations. The NDBC is located in southern Mississippi as a tenant at the John C. Stennis Space Center, a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.
This database holds wind, wave, and other marine data collected by the NOAA National Data Buoy Center (NDBC). The data are collected from NDBC moored buoys and from C-MAN (Coastal-Marine Automated Network) stations located on piers, offshore towers, lighthouses, and beaches.
The NDBC compiles coastal and offshore weather observations from NOAA fixed and drifting data buoys and C-MAN stations. Moored buoys are deployed in all U.S. coastal and offshore waters, from the western Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean around Hawaii, and from the Bering Sea to the South Pacific.
The National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) ensures maritime safety by operating a global network of moored deep-ocean and coastal buoys that monitor weather, climate and tsunami signals.
