Our programs emphasize immersion in nature and first-hand sustainable living experiences. Alternative Spring and Fall Break, courses for academic credit, “green” workshops, organic gardening and food preservation, and a youth peace camp are a few examples of our program offerings.
We are located on the “north side” of Grainger County and protect more than 500 acres of mountain land. Components include an Earth Literacy resource center and library, eco-friendly meeting and lodging rental facilities, a natural burial preserve, and land trusts building sites.
Earth Literacy deepens the learner’s understanding and sense of responsibility for the ways in which every profession and vocation is practiced. It attempts to provide a more meaningful context for the learner’s work in the world, whatever that work might be.
