4 lip 2024 · The Mun, is a large satellite orbiting Kerbin. It is mostly gray in appearance, with craters of various sizes dotting its otherwise smooth surface. The Mun’s discovery is widely regarded as one of the more important breakthroughs of Kerbal evolution.
22 sty 2023 · Kerbal Space Program can be a challenging game when you first start, especially if you know little about space. In this tutorial, I will explain in great detail and use simple language to help newcomers orbit their first moon in the game. I wish all newcomers good luck in exploring the Kerbol System! Contents. 1 Why go to the Mun First?
The Mun is a large moon orbiting Kerbin, and the inner moon of Kerbin. It is the larger sibling of Kerbin's other moon, Minmus. The Mun does not have an atmosphere, and has one-sixth the surface gravity of Kerbin. The surface is gray and barren, saturated in craters of various sizes.
What you are trying to do is reduce your velocity relative to Kerbin such that your Periapsis drops to within Kerbin's atmosphere. Now, since the Mun has its own gravity, you are going to take off and escape the Mun's gravity while going in the direction opposite the direction the Mun is orbiting Kerbin.
I think a key issue is that you want 90 degrees on launch (pure east), and not 45 degrees. If you launch on a perfect easterly orbit from Kerbin, a little trick for a mun intercept from Kerbin orbit is to start your burn (prograde) when the moon rises over Kerbin’s horizon.
You want to be more or less horizontal by about 60km. Landing is where you're probably being most inefficient. Without mods it's difficult to do well, not least because of the garbage altimeter. Coming back from mun, 45 degrees till you clear terrain then horizontal till you hit your desired apoapsis.
