Mun, also known as the Mün, is a large moon orbiting Kerbin. It can be thought of as an analogue to our own Moon. It is gray in appearance with craters of various sizes and mountains exceeding 3400 m in height.
Technically, I guess it should be "Mun" (unless perhaps 'mun' means 'moon' in the Kerbal language and it took them a while to discover Minmus). But since it's so close to 'moon' sound-wise and, as you say, we're used to saying 'the Moon', I find that it sounds weird and say "the Mun".

To get to the Mun, you just have to get into a higher orbit. Changing your altitude isn’t that hard. You need to know about two places: the lowest point in your orbit (periapsis) and the highest point (apoapsis). Take a look at your orbit on the map view and you’ll see that these are marked for you.
