In fact, there are no stat differences between horses mules and donkeys - they are all "equine", their breeding uses the same "average horse" when determining the stats of offspring. There is also no reason ever to use a donkey for transport when you have a properly bred mule!

However, because mules are much more common than hinnies, "mule" can colloquially refer to any donkey-horse hybrid. Mules are the only hybrid mobs in Minecraft.
