Situated at an elevation of 2,300 feet, the vineyard boasts Sangiovese, Aglianico, Primitivo, Negroamaro, Montepulciano, Teroldego, Aleatico, and Canaiolo Nero grape varieties.
20 lis 2022 · A chance stop at a diner in the agricultural community of Chicago Park in Nevada County proved fortuitous. He bought high elevation property the next year, planted the estate vineyard, and never looked back. Montoliva Vineyards & Winery doesn't have a lot of company in Nevada County.
This mix of weather and geology has replicated the growing conditions for central and southern Italian wine grapes here in the Northern Sierra foothills. The “sweet spot” is at about 2,000 feet in the hills near Grass Valley—home to Montoliva Vineyard & Winery.
The Montoliva wines are balanced, a bit rustic, and calling for food, similar to Italian wines. You’ll see “Chicago Park” prominently on the labels for Montoliva, although it’s not a recognized AVA. Technically Montoliva is in the Sierra Foothills, but Henry doesn’t prefer to use
