Monte Albán, site of ruins of an ancient centre of Zapotec and Mixtec culture, located in what is now Oaxaca state, Mexico. The initial construction at the site has been placed at circa 8th century bce.
Monte Albán – dawne centrum kulturalne Mezoameryki położone na Wyżynie Meksykańskiej w stanie Oaxaca w Meksyku. Centrum jest położone 2000 m n.p.m. i około 400 m nad otaczającymi wzgórze dolinami. Mimo odkrycia tylko około 10% pierwotnej zabudowy jest to jedno z ciekawszych miejsc w Meksyku [1].
Although never as large or powerful as the city of Teotihuacan, Monte Albán apparently had peaceful relations with its central Mexico neighbor. A Oaxaca barrio at Teotihuacan revealed the distinctive Zapotec ceramic forms.
