The Montana Board of Oil and Gas Conservation (MBOGC) administers the Montana oil and gas conservation laws; promotes conservation and prevents waste in the recovery of resources; and regulates oil and gas exploration and production.

The WebMapper was developed to provide the citizens of Montana, the oil and gas industry, and other interested persons the ability to visually examine the spatial location of oil and gas producing wells throughout the state as related to roads, townships, rivers, and other cultural features.

The MBOGC also issues drilling permits, oversees industry activity, and implements Montana’s oil and gas laws in a manner consistent with the goals of conservation, efficient resource development, waste prevention, and protection of surface owner rights and subsurface mineral rights.
