Is that correct? It struck me as strange since it seems to be a standard cable. TLDR: Are there generic molex 8 pin to 8 pin connectors available for PSUs, are they safe to use, and do they need to be specific to my unit? Thanks for the help!

To clarify, the 8 pin on the motherboard is an EPS header for your CPU. You keep talking about GPU power, which is a DIFFERENT 8 pin connector that would be attached directly to the GPU if required. Lower end GPUs get enough power through the PCI slot via the 24 pin connector.

23 kwi 2021 · you'd be very correct. Hobbyists keep old PSUs for cables, because buying anything online right now is going to be fake, except from mauser/digikey, but there you need to know all the specs of what you want and buy in high volume, it's easier to cut the psu cables off.
