From August 1912 until first discontinued by Winchester in May 1964, nearly two million Model 12 shotguns were produced in various grades and barrel lengths. Initially chambered for 20 gauge only, the 12 and 16 gauge versions came out in 1913 (first listed in the 1914 catalogs), and the 28 gauge version came out in 1934.

3 kwi 2016 · The biggest problem with converting a civilian Winchester Model 12 into a trench gun is the barrel taper. On the trench guns, it was a straight taper. On the civilian guns, it was a concave taper, so it's hard to get the repro or original bayonet mounts properly snugged down.
Over the years, civilian Model 12's were offered in 12, 16, 20 and 28 gauges with barrels ranging from 25" to 32" long. Model 12 Riot and Trench guns with shorter barrels were produced for police and military use. Trench guns came with a barrel heat shield and a bayonet lug.
In the Model 12 Winchester, you can measure from the top of the receiver from where the bolt opening ends, to the barrel tip, to get an accurate overall barrel length. As an example, in the riot gun which has a 20" barrel, the measurement from the barrel tip to the receiver front is only 19 1/4 ".

29 gru 2023 · For sportsmen, the Model 12 appeared in several different grades. Barrel lengths were 26, 28 and 30 inches long in Cylinder, Improved, Modified, Full, Skeet and Trap chokes. Lots of different combinations of ribs, engraving, inlays, and exotic wood, with a few different standard models listed below.
