To work on a food cart or truck, you must get a mobile food vendor license and pass the Food Protection Course for Mobile Vendors. There is no limit on the total number of mobile food vendor licenses granted by the City, but each vendor can get only one license.
Anyone who wishes to apply for a mobile food vending permit must already have a current Mobile Food Vending License issued by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (or at least submit a renewal application for an expired license at the same time an application for the permit is submitted).

Mobile food vending operators must obtain their food from a commissary or other establishment licensed, permitted or regulated by a government agency. If you wish to use an alternative location, you must obtain approval from the NYC Health Department.
