The mixed methods approach has been used as a means of triangulation in order for quantitative and qualitative approaches to help validate each other. It is a strategy to provide a wider evidence base (Baker, 1999) and “improve[s] the validity and reliability of research or evaluation of findings” (Golafshani, 2003, p. 603). As Bryman said:
