21 mar 2024 · When measured in real dollars, the average cost of an MIT education for those who receive financial aid has been reduced by almost 25 percent over the past two decades. For undergraduates not receiving any need-based financial aid, tuition and fees will be (as noted earlier) $62,396 for the 2024-25 academic year.
The cost of attendance for the 2024–2025 academic year is $85,960. This number is actually much lower than what it costs MIT to educate students. However, most students pay far less than the total cost of attendance because of our need-based financial aid.
Cost of attendance: The total cost of attending MIT for one academic year, which incorporates direct costs that are on your bill (tuition and fees) as well as indirect costs that aren’t on your bill, such as personal expenses and books.
Undergraduate Cost of Attendance Tuition rates are set by the Academic Council each year in spring for the following academic year. The annual cost of attendance is the total amount we estimate it will cost a student to attend MIT for one year.
All undergraduates attend MIT at a significant discount to the true cost of an MIT education. The actual cost of an MIT education is about twice the annual tuition. Even those students who pay full tuition do not pay the total cost.
