Structural family therapy is a model of treatment based on systems theory that was developed primarily at the Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic, under the leadership of Salvador Minuchin, over the last 15 years.
Minuchin defines family structure as “the invisible set of functional demands that organizes the ways in which family members interact”8). Within a family, interactions occur among family members, i.e., the so-called “transactions”.
