You can renew your vehicle permit anytime in the 2 months before it expires. You can also renew anytime after your permit expires. After renewing your permit, you need to keep the renewal confirmation and your old permit in your vehicle until the new permit and sticker for your plate arrives.

The Minnesota State Parks and Trails license plate provides you with unlimited visits to every Minnesota state park and recreation area for an entire year, without requiring a separate vehicle permit. Plus it helps fund the operations and maintenance of Minnesota's state parks and trails.

HOW TO RENEW YOUR VEHICLE PERMIT: ALL vehicle permits can be renewed at a Registry of Motor Vehicles counter or by mail. Many permit renewals can be submitted online. The exceptions are: Firefighter plates (require support from firefighter chief or deputy chief)
A Minnesota state park vehicle permit is valid for one year, from the day it is purchased through the last day of that month one year later. Daily vehicle permits that are purchased for one day expire at 10:00 p.m. and are dated the day of purchase.
