If you after mobs that do things for you there is Ancient Warfare (1,12,2 and before), Minecolonies (1.16.3 and before), Sim U Kraft/others like it for 1.7.10 era, creating NPCs with Custom NPCs similar ones to that. Or ones like a Player Bots that just adds mobs that make it feels like other players are in your world but don't do anything.
