Military ZIP Codes are five-digit codes that start with a 0 or 9: AE: Armed Forces Europe, including Canada, the Middle East, and Africa. These ZIP Codes start with 09.
The Delivery Address Line for all APO/FPO military mail must be standardized to include the appropriate military address type with its assigned number, plus a box number. There are five possible military address types: CPR (Consolidated Postal Room), OPC (Official Postal Center), PSC (Postal Service Center), UPR (Unit Postal Room), and UNIT.
"Military Post Office (MPO)" refers to all post offices operated by the Military Departments. The terms "Army/Air Force Post Office (APO) and Fleet Post Office (FPO)" shall be used in addressing mail. DoD 4525.6-L-1, "Military Post Office Location List (MPOLL)," January 1986, is hereby cancelled.
