Mikhail Kalashnikov married twice, the first time to Ekaterina Danilovna Astakhova of Altai Krai. He married the second time to Ekaterina Viktorovna Moiseyeva (1921–1977). [ 6 ] [ 31 ] She was an engineer and did much technical drawing work for her husband.
Mikhail Timofeevich met his future wife, Ekaterina Moiseeva, in 1943 on a test range near Moscow when she was not yet 22 years old. She worked there as a draftswoman in a design bureau. Later, when Mikhail was also employed with this design bureau the young people decided to get married.
