Memory retrieval involves the interaction between external sensory or internally generated cues and stored memory traces (or engrams) in a process termed ‘ecphory’. While ecphory has been examined in human cognitive neuroscience research, its neurobiological foundation is less understood.

In this review, we will discuss some key biological mechanisms found to be critical for memory consolidation and strengthening, the role/s and mechanisms of memory reconsolidation, and how the interference with consolidation and/or reconsolidation can modulate the retention and/or storage of memories that are linked to psychopathologies.
22 paź 2021 · Memory consists of the following steps-encoding, storage, and recall (retrieval). Encoding is the process of altering the material reaching our nervous system into a mode that the system can manage so that it can be easily stored.
14 paź 2009 · In the forty years since the Society for Neuroscience was founded, our understanding of the biology of memory has progressed dramatically. From a historical perspective, one can discern four distinct periods of growth in neurobiological research during that time.
4 lut 2023 · Especially memory retrieval is a fundamental cognitive ability to recall memory traces and update stored memory with new information. For effective memory retrieval and learning, the memory must be stabilized from short-term memory to long-term memory.
9 wrz 2013 · A central question in the biology of memory is the extent to which underlying mechanisms are shared across species. The answer to this question appears to be that, to a remarkable degree, the basic molecular and cellular mechanisms of memory have been conserved during evolution.
