The climate variability of wind waves is evaluated at seasonal scale by proposing and adopting a definition of seasons for the Mediterranean Sea states that is based on the satellite altimetry wave observations of stormy (winter) and calm (summer) months.

21 lip 2005 · Within the WW-Medatlas project, sponsored by the Italian, French and Greek Navies, an extensive atlas of the wind and wave conditions in the Mediterranean Sea has been completed.
The wave climate of the Mediterranean basin is considered as derived from a ten year long time series of wave model data. The work presented here is part of the MEDATLAS project, whose aim is the edition of a Wind and Wave Atlas of the Mediterranean Sea, both in electronic and printed form.
