Safe medication administration requires proper training, supervision, and careful attention to detail. Authorizes direct service providers to perform health-related tasks for people with a variety of medical conditions.
Medication Administration. Approved Med Admin. Direct support professionals, or DSPs, require special certification to administer most medications and treatments. Once certification is earned, it must be renewed annually. Certification is issued by DODD.
DODD-approved curriculum must be used for all medication administration certification initial training classes, including the stand-alone vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), epinephrine auto-injector, and over-the-counter (OTC) topical medications for comfort, cleansing, and protection of intact skin, hair, nails, teeth, and oral surfaces.
