What’s covered? Medicare covers these services in a skilled nursing facility (SNF): • Semi-private room (a room you share with other patients) • Meals. • Skilled nursing care. • Medical social services. • Medications. • Medical supplies and equipment used in the facility.
The medical and other health services described in the Medicare Benefit Policy Manual, Chapter 6, “Hospital Services Covered Under Part B,” §§10 - 10.2.4, are generally provided by, or under arrangements made by, skilled nursing facilities and are therefore extended care services.

Will Medicare pay for a nursing home? Generally, no. Coverage is limited to short-term, medically necessary care following an eligible hospital stay.
You enter a Medicare-certified SNF within 30 days of leaving the hospital, and receive care for the same condition that you were treated for during your hospital stay. And, you need skilled nursing care seven days per week or skilled therapy services at least five days per week.
