3 cze 2024 · Five athletes (six ankles) underwent surgical treatment for a medial malleolus stress fracture. The surgical technique was based on the extent of the fracture line in steps with first arthroscopic debridement of bony spurs, microfracturing of the fracture line and screw fixation.
1 gru 2012 · Early MRI is recommended if a medial malleolar stress fracture is suspected. Surgical treatment seems to result in rapid healing of the fracture and return to sports. In our opinion early surgery should be considered especially in athletes.
Surgical dissection. Expose the anterior part of the fracture site, free the periosteum from the edges of the medial malleolus to the distal tibial joint surface and inspect the joint. If necessary, make a vertical incision at the anteromedial edge of the joint capsule.

We report a case of the left medial malleolus stress fracture secondary to advanced knee osteoarthritis (OA) with severe varus deformities. Mechanical malalignment like severe genu varus deformity is a risk factor for a stress fracture in knee OA.
