On this page you will find a list of qualifications that are considered equivalent to the Dutch secondary school diploma (havo, vwo or mbo-4). If your qualification is not listed below, please know that you can still apply, as all applications are assessed on an individual basis.

Secondary vocational education (middelbaar beroepsonderwijs, MBO). MBO prepares pupils for the professional practice or further study. This type of education follows on from VMBO; its duration will depend on the chosen qualification. MBO comprises 4 levels (I-IV). Read more on the website of SBB.

The MBO (middelbaar beroepsonderwijs; literally "middle-level applied education") is oriented towards vocational training and is the equivalent of junior college education. Many pupils with a VMBO-diploma attend MBO.
If you have a qualification for an MBO course that no longer exists, you can apply to the SBB for a Europass Certificate Supplement. If your diploma has a Central Register of Vocational Courses (CREBO) code (in Dutch), the document is free of charge.
