Nice visitor center with a lot of information. Loved getting to see the Bison up close and enjoy the gorgeous views of the wildflowers and hills. The tram ride was a really great way to see the bison. They are not afraid, and you get an up close view including the bison calves.
Maxwell National Wildlife Refuge provides a unique opportunity to view wildlife in a variety of habitats. Located in northeastern New Mexico at an elevation of 6050', the refuge encompasses 3,700 acres of short grass prairie, playa lakes, wetlands, woodlots, and agricultural lands.
The Maxwell Wildlife Refuge in McPherson County, Kansas consists of 2,574 acres (1,042 ha) of mostly mixed grass prairie. Bison and elk inhabit the refuge. The McPherson State Fishing Lake adjoins the refuge and adds another 260 acres (110 ha) of protected area, including a 46 acres (19 ha) lake.
