Matilda is able to free herself from a family that's thoroughly boorish, but kids in real life have to learn to make connections with the people around them and not look for ways to run away. It's a difficult lesson, but most kids will accept that this is an exaggerated fantasy.

Matilda (1996) is one of the best family films ever made. It's witty, beautifully acted, well shot, and equal parts dark and hopeful, enough to appeal to older audiences as well as kids. Matilda is such a great movie.

'Matilda' is a classic kids film with a fun story and some ridiculously over-the-top characters. I can't help but find this film hugely enjoyable and would recommend it to people of all ages with a good sense of humour!
