The lower castle (Castello Inferiore) is in the main square, is intact, and can be visited. The huge town walls stretch up the hillside and join the two.

Then in September every year a huge chess game is organised in the square outside the castle where the traditional game is played with horses and humans as the playing blocks in the chess game. There are great pizzerias and ristorante near the Piazza. The castle closes at 7pm to the public.
