Marostica and piazza Castello offers a relaxing atmosphere with small family shops selling antiques, Italian clothing and cherry flavored Grappa. They also hold an antique market in the piazza at the beginning of each month.
Tourist sights. Marostica’s principal tourist sights are the two castles, one at the top of the hill above town, the other in the main square, Piazza Castello. In the square itself you can see the chessboard laid out in paving stones, and admire the view up to the upper castle (Castello Superiore).

Dec 2021. The square is the heart of Marostica. One one side there is Palazzo Doglione while on the other you find the Lower Castle. The renowned chessboard is between the two. Piazza con scacchiera. apr 2023. Piazza centrale di Marostica, dove ogni 2 anni si svolge la partita degli scacchi viventi. Infatti a terra si trova la scacchiera, da un lato il Castello Inferiore e dall'altro il Palazzo del Doglione con Loggia e torre civica.
Firstly Marostica is a fantastic little town. Then in September every year a huge chess game is organised in the square outside the castle where the traditional game is played with horses and humans as the playing blocks in the chess game. There are great pizzerias and ristorante near the Piazza. The castle closes at 7pm to the public.
