What is Mapcode? MAPCODE is a unique numerical identifier of a specific location in Japan. MAPCODE are unique to Japan and from our experience most if not all of the navigation system in rentals cars accepts MAPCODE, not GPS latitude and longitude and most definitely not Google Pluscode.
MAPCODE is a numerical number that the latitude and longitude of a place in Japan are converted into. “Drive! NIPPON” allows you to search MAPCODE. You can also set MAPCODE in the car navigation system in setting the destination. Searching and Using MAPCODE are totally free of charge.
The Denso MapCode system divided Japan into 1162 zones, each zone into 900 blocks, and each block into 900 areas. A Denso MapCode number consists of the zone number (up to 4 digits), the block number (always 3 digits) and the area number (always 3 digits), a numeric code of up to 10 digits.
