The Manchus (Manchu: ᠮᠠᠨᠵᡠ, Möllendorff: manju; Chinese: 滿族; pinyin: Mǎnzú; Wade–Giles: Man 3-tsu 2) [a] are a Tungusic East Asian ethnic group native to Manchuria in Northeast Asia. They are an officially recognized ethnic minority in China and the people from whom Manchuria derives its name.
Manchuria was the homeland of several ethnic groups, including Manchu, Mongols, Koreans, Nanai, Nivkhs, Ulchs, Hui, possibly Turkic peoples, and ethnic Han Chinese in southern Manchuria.
With a population of more than 10 million, the Manchu ethnic minority group is primarily in northeastern China. Half of the total Manchus live in Liaoning Province, and most of the rest are divided between Hebei, Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces.
