Both words have two pronunciations. man: short-a/schwa men: short-e/short-i In both cases, the first pronunciation is the more common. The second appears in nonstandard dialects and when the words are part of another word, such as "Englishman", "woman", etc.
24 sty 2015 · In that circumstance, you can easily use the /æ/ vowel for man/can, and the /ɛ/ for men. You may not then have a perfect US accent, but at least they and other English-speakers round the world won't misunderstand you!

While man and men are both nouns referring to adult human males, they are not interchangeable. Man refers to an individual, making it singular, while men refers to a group of two or more and is, therefore, plural. The distinct pronunciation of each reflects their singular or plural nature.

As for how they are “actually” pronounced, it’s hard to be specific unless you are familiar with IPA. “Men” is /mɛn/, and “man” is [mɛən], [meən], or [mẽə̃n], according to wiktionary. This is in contrast to the “standard” pronunciation of /mæn/ that you probably learned.
