19 wrz 2000 · The meaning of these two names is explained in the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him), according to which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “You are al-Zaahir, and there is nothing above You, and You are al-Baatin and there is nothing beneath You.” (Narrated by Muslim).
Zahir refers to the outer dimension, or the outer face, of the Islamic faith. Batin on the other hand refers to the inner, spiritual dimension. At its most simple level the former term refers to acts while the latter refers to the intention behind those acts.
