20 kwi 2016 · I play a Burke F, which has all the pros and cons of other Burkes: big bore, huge bellnote, strong low octave, smooth voicing, great tuning, slightly stiff 2nd octave, slightly loud/harsh "one finger note" in the 2nd octave (fingered B, sounding note D) and greater-than-average air consumption.
13 lis 2023 · Recent Killarney Whistles. I have heard some rumblings that the quality of the more recent Killarney D whistles, (2022 and more recent), do not have the same clearness of tone as when they first started producing them.
Excellent Customer Service. I contacted Mk Whistles with a question to fix an issue with my Mk Pro Low F. Misha was able to diagnose the issue, and continued to exchange e-mails with me to offer advice and troubleshooting tips. By the end of the day, all of my questions were answered and issue resolved.
The most critical piece is the blade edge where the airstream is split, if that's not clean then the whistle won't work well. The Oriole series is a good value because you can order Bb, C, and Eb tube sections to match the head.
I'm slowly getting better and better at the Low-D, 'fixing' that is not my main concern as I'm certain it's a breath control issue. Right now I think the only real choice in that sub-$50 range is a Feadog/Generation/etc., giving up on the brass and getting a nickel Dixon, or maybe one of the tweaked Freeman whistles.
5 kwi 2024 · Decent and Forgettable. It's also one of Series 6's weakest. Mike's Whistle is great and is much better.
