If the character embraces the curse, his or her alignment becomes the one defined for the lycanthrope. However, on p. 206, it states: By resisting the curse, a lycanthrope retains its normal alignment and personality while in humanoid form.

There's information in the monster manual under the werewolf statblock of what the curse of lycanthropy can bring but it's (admittedly) a little vague. Though it does change the strength and constitution score of the cursed person and mention their transformation happens once a month.
Apart from being a true lycanthrope or contracting lycanthropy as if it were a disease from one, one can also be cursed. These are dreadful curses - especially when one considers that the first victims are often loved ones -, bestowed by malignant gods or evil mages.
