Federal law does not require lunch or coffee breaks. 24 wrz 2024 · Only 11 states have local laws requiring employers to offer rest periods during work hours, and these short breaks almost always come in addition to a meal break. For instance, Colorado requires a 30-minute meal break for 5+ hour shifts and a 10-minute break for every four hours of work.
Meal period must be provided to begin no later than after 5 hours of work, i.e., start meal by 5-hour mark. Meal periods for shifts that are more than 5 hours long and less than or equal to 6 hours long can be waived by mutual consent between employer and employee.
