(38-42)1-16 Christ sent the seventy disciples, two and two, that they might strengthen and encourage one another. The ministry of the gospel calls men to receive Christ as a Prince and a Saviour; and he will surely come in the power of his Spirit to all places whither he sends his faithful servants.
1. (Luke 10:38-40) Martha’s appeal to Jesus. Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word.
What does Luke 10:30 mean? As an expert in the law, the lawyer to whom Jesus is speaking knows that loving God and loving one's neighbor is the heart of the Mosaic law. But he wants specifics. Who is his neighbor (Luke 10:25–29)? Jesus tells a story that turns the question around.
Verses 38-42: Jesus Visits Martha and Mary. Visiting Martha and Mary, Jesus commends Mary's choice to listen to His teaching, rather than being distracted by much serving, emphasizing the importance of spiritual nourishment. Luke 10 presents a vivid picture of God's kingdom in action.

The first appears in Mark 1:41, where He, "moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched [a leper], and said to him, 'I am willing; be cleansed.'". Another time, recorded in Luke 7:13, He feels compassion for a widow who had just lost her only son, and He raises him from the dead.
