VERSE DISCOVERY: 1 John 4:7-19 (KJV, Public Domain) Love is a subject very near and dear to my heart. It is probably one of my most written about topics to express. And, we find out from today’s lesson that love is the essence of who God is.
Love is at the top of the list for Christians because it best shows God’s char-acter.1 It was love that caused God to create us, to support us, and to make Himself known to us. Love also leads God to give us His Son to save us. John says it so clearly—“God is love” (1 John 4:16).
God demonstrated his love for us by sending Christ to die for undeserving sinners. * For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 16 “For God so loved the world,[a]that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
