Long Pond, located a short distance from the capital city of Augusta, is a major body of water in the famed Belgrade Lakes system. This beautiful pond is divided into two di~t;n~t na~ins by a narrows. The ~~we~ (~~uth) basin is the deepest and contains a sizeable amount of habitat to support both coldwater and warmwater fishes.

This expansive pond, a gem in the heart of Belgrade and Mount Vernon, is characterized by its unique division into two distinct basins by a narrows. The southern basin, known as the lower basin, is the deepest and offers abundant habitat for both coldwater and warmwater fish species.
18 lip 2024 · Geographic Area Served by the Project: The primary focus of this project takes place within the watersheds of Great Pond and Long Pond in the towns of Rome, Belgrade, and Mount Vernon, within Kennebec County, Maine. The project covers approximately 133 square miles, of which 26.5 acres is water.
Long Pond. The northern basin of Long Pond in Rome is of similar depth as Great Pond, but the basin forming the western boundary of Belgrade and eastern boundary of Mount Vernon south of the narrows is fifty percent deeper with cooler deep waters. There is a public boat launch area at the south end of the narrows. [7] .
