Anatomy. The nasal cavity is a potential space situated above the oral cavity and hard palate and below the skull base and intracranial compartment. It is separated in the midline by the nasal septum into a right and left side.
From top to bottom, the four paranasal sinuses are the frontal, ethmoid, sphenoid and maxillary sinuses. It exists in pairs on both the right and left sides of the skull. The inside of the sinuses are lined with a thin mucous membrane which secretes small amounts of mucus.
