Long Island Power Authority (LIPA, "lie-pah") is a municipal subdivision [1] of the State of New York that owns the electric transmission and electric distribution system serving all of Long Island and a portion of New York City known as the Rockaways.
LIPA provides service to customers under the PSEG Long Island brand name. As the steward of the electricity system, LIPA has the ultimate authority and control over our electrical assets to best serve the needs of our customers. The current contract with PSEG Long Island expires on December 31, 2025.
