For better gaming performance choose a light desktop environment... so MATE might be a good option. But in terms of usability and features cinnamon is best since it's designed for Linux mint from the first place... and it doesn't take up alot of memory it's just heavy relative to MATE and xfce. 16 sie 2024 · I am using Linux mint 22 XFCE and I have read a couple of times that 21.3 is better for older hardware. So, I want to know should I Switch to 21.3 or stick with 22? Also I have noticed that xfce 22 uses almost the same amount of ram as MATE.
