Joseph was the son of Jacob and the husband of Mary, but he was not the physical father of Jesus. We do not read that Joseph was the “father of” Jesus. Instead, we read “Mary, by whom Jesus was born.”

God honored Joseph because he "was separate from his brothers." He was separate in that he alone remained faithful to his God. Conspicuous by their absence are the names of Joseph's brothers from the Faith Chapter. Hebrews 11 does not mention Reuben, Judah, Dan, Gad, or any other of Jacob's sons.
