24 reviews. BE. 5 Jan 2024. Be Careful when applying for a "free" yearly subscription. I joined LimeWire a couple of weeks ago after the BlueWillow server on Discord was redirected to LimeWire.com. I updated my account, and used the website for a while.
LimeWire never actually hosted data, and generally did not even host the torrent files. This design completely isolated them from the data their software was used to transfer, which was often, but not always*, illegal.
The company made money by upselling the "pro" version of the software, which supposedly gave faster downloads. Towards the end, they also bundled the Ask toolbar, which is super shitty, but helped keep the company afloat for longer.
Edit: I have never seen a LimeWire file tagged that accurately. THAT was the biggest PITA about LimeWire for anyone who was reasonably careful - none of your music ever had consistent metatags until you manually fixed each one.

9 maj 2011 · The email informs recipients about the shutdown ordered by the US Federal Court and offers them an alternative LimeWire software, which can be downloaded from an embedded link. The said link was found to be malicious but is already inaccessible as of this writing.
