Josefa Segovia, also known as Juanita or Josefa Loaiza, was a Mexican-American woman who was executed by hanging in Downieville, California, on July 5, 1851. [1] She was found guilty of murdering a local miner, Frederick Cannon.

Josefa Segovia Morón was a leading figure in the foundation and development of the Teresian Association. She was born in Jaen on 10 October 1891. She studied Education in Granada and then at the Superior School of Education in Madrid from which she graduated with distinction in 1913.
