My curiosity was initially piqued by a question: If a viewer watches a video at an increased speed, how does YouTube count this in terms of watch time? To test this, I watched my own video which has a length of 36 minutes at 2x speed, cutting the real-time duration down to 18 minutes.
The results were clear: the 1.5x and 2x groups did just as well on the tests as those who’d watched the videos at normal speed, both immediately afterwards and one week on. Only at 2.5x was learning impaired.
