Simply stated, some standards (TEKS) have greater priority than others – they are so vital to the current grade level or content area that they must be learned to a level of mastery to ensure readiness (success) in the next grade levels.
Core Reading. Developing and sustaining foundational language skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking. 8.2 Vocabulary. The student uses newly acquired vocabulary expressively. 8.3 Fluency. The student reads grade-level text with fluency and comprehension.
