Biblatex is much easier to customise than style files for bibtex, as it uses a latex-like syntax. The compilation process is along the following steps: compile with pdflatex (or latex, or xelatex, or lualatex).

Solutions: Use \nocite{*} to list all entries in the bibliography, without regard to whether they are cited or not. Or simply: Cite something.
LaTeX has built in support for citing references. However, a much more powerful and flexible solution is achieved thanks to an auxiliary tool called BibTeX (which comes bundled as standard with Latex.) BibTeX allows you to store all your references in an external, flat-file database.
